A Tuesday night in Taksim. A room booked for maybe fifteen people. What actually showed up was something none of us planned for — and the clips from that night became the most-watched content on my entire YouTube channel, with over 10,000 views on Instagram alone.
We honestly didn’t expect such an overwhelming response to our jam session at Ortak Studio. The event filled up incredibly fast, and seeing so many talented musicians, singers, creatives, and music lovers come together in one cozy space was something really special.
The Space: Ortak Studio, Taksim
If you don’t know Ortak Studio — it’s a startup creative space in the heart of Taksim, run by Alen, Selin, and Ilker. Part recording studio, part co-working space, part “whatever you need it to be.” Before the jam night, I went down with Alen to show you around:
The Song: “The Purpose Of Existence”
The centrepiece of the night was an original song I’ve been developing across three countries. “The Purpose Of Existence” started as an acoustic sketch in India, evolved through street jams in Morocco, and found its full form in Istanbul. Playing it with a room full of musicians who’d never heard it before — watching them find their parts in real time — was one of those experiences that reminds you why you do any of this.
